Most people confuse anime with cartoons, and they think that anime is only for children and can only interest children. However, anime is much more than just a cartoon, and it is a very famous phenomenon in both Japan and China. It is so famous that more than 40 new anime series appear on television per week, and more paper is used to print manga than toilet paper in Japan.
What is Anime then?
Anime is a combination of sketching and literature; it is a new form of art that has attracted masses of fans in both the East and now in the West. Although it is basically composed of hand-made or computerized sketches, it has a plot that develops in a complicated, dramatic, and exciting way.
If you are still unsure about starting an anime or not, we can give you three main reasons for why you should start watching animes!
1. Anime can attract people from different ages and different interest groups.
You can find anime in different genres including science fiction, robots, dystopia/utopia, history, drama, or supernatural elements. Some of them are suitable to watch with children, such as Dragon Ball, Captain Tsubasa, or Pokemon, but some other anime series in the horror genre, such as Tokyo Ghoul or Van Helsing, could include some violent scenes that might bother little kids. Therefore, you should pay extra attention when choosing the type of anime that you are going to watch with your family. In sum, everyone can find an anime that suits their interests, and anime is not a blessing only for children. 🙂
2. It can improve your imagination.
It does not matter how many animes I have watched, I can still admire the imagination skills of Japanese and Chinese people whenever I start a new anime. Most animes have very interesting characters with supernatural powers, and the events most of the time take place in imaginary places. The protagonists gain their special powers through special training and techniques, and all the levels they reach usually have different names. Therefore, admiring the productivity and imagination of the Mangaka becomes inevitable after a while when you think about all the design steps of every character, their special powers, and their demonstration of how this power evolves in every episode. Therefore, watching anime can open a new page in your life and increase creativity.
3. Anime can be a good tool to learn the language and the culture:
If you are into Japanese culture and you are a real anime fan, you can catch some minor cultural details in almost every anime. For example, most animes have the theme of the power of friendship, family, or never giving up, etc. Even in horror animes, it is possible to see the main character trying hard to save his/her best friend or to put his life on the line to protect others. In addition, you can also gain some minor tips about Japanese lifestyle and relationships. Especially in romantic animes such as Candy Candy, you can see a person embracing their loved ones from behind, which is a sign of intimacy in Japanese culture and means that they really care about that person and love them from the bottom of their heart, even if they cannot put it into words.
