There are so many ways to increase our happiness! Some of these methods might really click with you, while others may not feel quite right. Either way, just a few little changes to your daily routine can brighten your day and boost your happiness.
Hope you find some useful tips here. Remember, these are not one-time-practice tips; you need to be patient and consistent!
- Value experiences, not things
The things you buy or own can bring joy, but that feeling often doesn’t last long. Some research shows that we mostly remember the moments we share with people, the places we explore, or new experiences in the long term, rather than a watch we bought 5 months ago or the car we have, which is no longer new.

2. Use the power of “kindness”
Helping others also boosts happiness. Simple acts of kindness will improve your overall well-being, giving way to another vehicle in traffic, saying “Good morning” to someone during a brief moment of eye contact, or simply practicing empathy. Shifting your focus from your problems to other people’s needs helps you relax and feel better.
But remember! You are not responsible for everyone’s needs; find the balance.
3. Appreciate “simple”
Don’t wait for big events or achievements to be happy. In the ordinary course of life, happiness comes from simple pleasures and in small doses. Wake up in your clean sheets, enjoy your cup of coffee on a tiring day, or appreciate a bit of small talk with a friend. Be thankful for what you have in life.
4. Share happiness
Believe me, happiness blooms in sharing! Life isn’t always rewarding for us. In those moments, sharing a friend’s happiness, good news, or achievements can create a cumulative joy, and we’ll feel more connected.

5. Connect with nature
Nature has a wonderful effect on our nervous system and helps soothe our nerves. Human beings are designed to be adaptive to nature, so being surrounded by green grass, blue skies, trees, and the sounds of birds and other animals is normally part of our lives. Sadly, the technological devices, big buildings, and busy vehicles make us feel disconnected from nature. But remember, nature can almost neutralize stress and negativity, and it can lift your mood. So, next time you are feeling down, just look up at the sky, walk barefoot on the soft soil, or enjoy a picnic outside!
6. Organize your space
Clutter is often said to reflect an untidy mind. Some people never ignore clutter or postpone cleaning their space. They even claim that decluttering provides a great sense of satisfaction. The visual distraction clutter causes may result in anxiety, reduced focus, or even restlessness. Start tidying up so you may discover the most productive version of you!
7. Discover meaning
Isn’t life all about finding meaning? We strive to find meaning in our relationships, our job, or the daily actions we perform, and we often question why we keep going.
Meaningful acts make life feel more precious and give us a bunch of joy. Instead of spending your days doing nothing, find a purpose, discover what matters to you, define your vision, and set your goals. Start with small steps. Soon you’ll see how you boost your sense of satisfaction in life!
8. Be aware
Are you running on autopilot? Do your days feel the same? Perhaps you are scrolling on your phone when someone speaks to you, watching a good movie while eating with your family, and you’re not even aware of how tasty it is, or simply not fully present, lost in your thoughts. If you think this is you, you are missing life’s joy hidden in the very present.
Start living in the now, not in the past or future. This will help you stop overthinking, reduce stress, and appreciate the small joyful moments in life. “Be mindful, not mind full!”
9. Be productive
Instead of the popular idea of “doing nothing” today, happiness’s more likely to come from doing meaningful work. Piled-up tasks and ignored responsibilities can cause overstress in your body. Stop postponing! Crossing items off your list and completing tasks at home, work, or school will release dopamine in your brain! You’ll boost your confidence and feel genuinely happier.
10. Take care of your body
Exercise is a great way to boost your energy and release good chemicals like endorphins. It really helps lift your mood and gives you a more positive mindset. Take a short walk around campus, get good sleep at night, and enjoy some healthy snacks. If you’re looking for a joyful activity, then why not dance freely in your room?
