PRETZEL: Let’s get twisted tonight!

Pretzel is definitely one of the most famous foods in Germany. It has been a symbol of bakers in German regions since the 12th century. There are some theories that the name Pretzel is derived from the Latin words “bracellus” (bracelet) or “bracchiola” (little arms). Although there are rumors, most sources say that pretzels were first baked and shaped by a monk in Italy in 610 AD to give to his students as a reward for learning their prayers. Pretzels quickly became famous and even more popular in the late 7th century. Since they were made only from salt, flour, and water, it was not surprising that they quickly became popular.

Pretzels make every day twistastic.

Although there are many types of bagels today, the pretzel, one of the classics, has always maintained its place. The recipe has changed a bit these days. It is now made with water, malt, wheat flour, yeast, and vegetable oil, and sometimes it is also made with lard and butter. The dough is rolled lengthwise, the ends are pulled to make them sharp, folded inward, and then the ends are twisted together. Although making pretzels by hand is fun, it has now been replaced by machines that enable mass production.

What goes well with it?

There are many types of food that you can eat and drink with it. It is generally consumed with German beer. Some other products are mustard, sugar, cheese, chocolate, guacamole, caramel, peanuts, and butter. If I were to give you a recommendation, it would taste great with chocolate, cheese, and guacamole. Pretzels, which have a great taste on their own, are a dish that should definitely be tried with the accompanying ingredients. I tried the pretzel at the festival myself, and it’s a must-try, especially with some sauce.
