Anıtkabir: The Perfect Reflection of Turkey’s History and Heritage

Hello everyone again. Today, we will visit Anıtkabir, where the mausoleum of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, is located in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. If you want to visit Anıtkabir completely, you need to dedicate an entire day. Let’s begin our tour now.

1- Lion Road

At the entrance to Anıtkabir, the first thing you will encounter is the Lion Road, which has become the symbol of Anıtkabir and extends from the entrance to the ceremonial square. There are 24 lion statues along this road, symbolizing strength and courage. Additionally, the stepping stones on the path are designed for us to walk with our heads bowed respectfully.

2- Ceremonial Square

The Parade Square, located at the end of Lion Road, is a space for 15,000 people. Its floor is paved with a carpet made of colored stones.

3- Mausoleum

The mausoleum, which is made much more magnificent compared to other parts, is, in my opinion, the most important place in Anıtkabir because it houses the sarcophagus and tomb of Atatürk.

4- Anıtkabir Museum

The museum houses a collection consisting of Atatürk’s personal belongings, photographs, artworks, and books. Here, you can explore the story of the man who led Turkey’s modernization and established its democratic foundations.

6- Tomb Chamber

Atatürk’s burial chamber is located right beneath the stone in the mausoleum. The tomb has an octagonal shape and remarkable ceiling decorations. The octagon symbolizes eternity and immortality. The most beautiful detail is that Atatürk’s grave overlooks Ankara Castle and the Turkish flag, which is visible from the museum’s largest window.

Today, I want to tell you about the place that impressed me the most. I think everyone should visit this place and experience this atmosphere because there is much more than what I have said. If you plan to visit, I recommend going on special days, especially October 29th, for a truly exciting experience. See you on our next trip!
