The conventional Japanese cuisine is based on rice. Japanese people usually eat starchy meals such as sushi, ramen, and udon. Also, seafood and vegetables, such as takoyaki and tendon, are common in their food culture. Moreover, there are lots of desserts. The most well-known desserts are mochi, dango, purin, and taiyaki. Additionally, Japanese people love to drink tea. There are several types of tea, such as matcha, sakura tea, kombucha, and genmaicha. In my opinion, even though the dishes are a little different, they look yummy. In today’s post, we will take a look at the most well-known Japanese food, sushi.
Sushi Ingredients
- Nori (seaweed)
- Rice
- Salmon
- Cucumber
- Carrot
- Rice vinegar
- White sugar
Let’s get to work
First of all, we put 1 cup of rice into a saucepan. Then, we add 1.5 cups of cold water. It is important to use cold water, for if we don’t add enough water to the rice, it will be dry. After that, we have to cook the rice for 10 minutes after the water boils. While cooking the rice, we have to prepare a vinegar solution. For the solution, we mix four tablespoons of rice vinegar, a quarter of a cup of white sugar, and one tablespoon (tbsp) of salt in a bowl. Then, we stir the ingredients and wait for the salt and sugar to dissolve completely. We put the cooked rice in another bowl and wait for it to cool a bit. Next, we add the solution to the rice and mix them. Next, we need to prepare the fillings. Firstly, we pour some salt and rice vinegar on each side of the salmon. Then we chop the salmon into long strips, and we cut and put the cucumber and carrot into thin strips. Now, we are ready to roll. We lay one piece of nori on the bamboo mat and add another layer consisting of rice on the nori. Lay out slices of salmon and vegetables across the center of the rice. After that, roll the bamboo mat. Squeeze the sides of the bamboo mat to shape the sushi roll, and then unroll the bamboo mat and remove the sushi. Then, we slice the sushi into equally sized pieces. To serve, we can use soy sauce and wasabi.
DONE! Enjoy your meal!
